• GROVELAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLTHEN & NOW

In 1833, a one-room schoolhouse was built in Plumstead Township between Gardenville and Hinkletown and named The Groveland School.

Later, this wooden structure was replaced by a brick building. This brick structure was destroyed by fire and was later rebuilt by Dr. Joseph Nash, a former pupil of the school and subsequently its schoolmaster for forty years. In 1961, Gayman Elementary School opened, and The Groveland School closed its doors.

Thirty-nine years later, on September 5, 2000, Groveland Elementary School opened its doors, welcoming 945 students. This beautiful new building is a two-story elementary school built to accommodate 1,100 students.

Our school has 47 classrooms, two computer labs, a full gymnasium, an art room, a vocal music room, an instrumental music room, a cafeteria, and a spacious library located in the center of the school. Additional space has been provided for special and gifted education, speech, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Two Large Group Instruction (LGI) rooms, a commercial kitchen, a health suite, and administrative and counseling offices complete the design of our school.

Here at Groveland Elementary, we seek to develop a high degree of trust with the parents, the community, and, most importantly, the children. Supporting our outstanding educational program will be a belief system that Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Cooperation are valued character traits that we hope to further develop in our students.
