• Comprehension Toolkit:

Reading comprehension is the evolution of thought that occurs as we read. Comprehension Toolkit is designed to teach students to think about what they are reading and to hold onto that thinking so that they understand and remember it. Six strategy clusters create an overarching course of study about active literacy and the reading and thinking strategies that support it.

Comprehension Toolkit instruction centers on six Strategy Clusters:

    -Monitor Comprehension

    -Activate and Connect

    -Ask Questions

    -Infer Meaning

    -Determine Importance

    -Summarize and Synthesize

Teachers utilize explicit instruction via modeling, practice, and application to promotes diverse, flexible thinking that encourages students to interact with the text as they are reading. Instructional practices used in the toolkit include think alouds, text coding, anchor charts, guided discussion and think sheets.
