    Unified Track Â鶹´«Ã½ Meets

Hi! This is Luke again!  The Unified Track team had their home meets on May 3 and May 10. A really fun time was had by all! CB South’s team was on fire!

CB South’s two home meets were both successes. With the support of the crowd, we ran our hardest and had a ton of fun. We even won first place on our final home meet! I participated in several events, including the 100-yard dash and mini javelin. With my friends around, I ran some personal bests! The cheering from the stands really helped me run fast.

Ms. Mattern is our Head Coach and I had the opportunity to ask her a couple of questions:

This year we had two home meets, is that normally what happens?

“This year is the first time that we have had two home meets.  We always get to have 1 home meet during the regular season, but, this year we also got to host the regional meet at the conclusion of the season.  I thought it was so fun to have 2 home meets this year!!”

And What is your favorite part about Unified Track?

“My favorite part of Unified track is working with so many students and watching them grow and compete!  I believe people are the best part of life and getting to work with so many fun people is the best part of Unified Track!  Plus, I LOVE watching students achieve their goals and continue to set new ones.”

Thank you all for reading my story. I hope you all learned a little bit more about Unified Track. Next year please try to come out and support us it helps us to stay motivated!!

Background Information: What You Need to Know

The writing center opened this year. The writing center opens during lunch and learn, and classes can come during  the rest of the day. In fact, I’m writing this blog in the writing center right now. The writing center is a good resource to help with homework and class work.

You can also make appointments with other students to help you with your writing, homework, and class work. The writing center can help you improve on your writing for college application and work application.

     Deep Dive

Mrs. Tannous, the director, felt excited and nervous at the same time. Last year the writing center opened partially. This year its open throughout the whole school day. Even though Mrs. Tannous was nervous, she’s happy that it's successful this year. She’s looking forward to next year.

    Wrap Up

I think all the students should try out the writing center and you can stop at the writing center during lunch & learn!

    CB South Foundation

My name is William Lilley and I want to talk about the foundation about CB South high school, when it was it built, and how was it built.

Background Information: What You Need to Know

My plan is to talk to the architecture designers and see how they built the school and was it done and how they started building it.

Here are some facts about our school

    1. South was built in 2005.
    2. If you are talking about the “grading” of the earth, the building is simply following/using the topography of the land.
    3. South’s design was following aspects of a school in the Allentown area, Parkland High School.
    4. Concrete, concrete block, brick, aluminum and wood studs are used through the building.
    5. Â鶹´«Ã½ bucks is in the middle of new hope/Solebury
    6. Â鶹´«Ã½ bucks has about 119.7 sq mi
    7. New York has the largest school district
    8. The population is about 149,000

    Deep Dive

The Auditorium is framed with wooden and metal studs, with insulation between the studs. Some of the walls are that of concrete block. Drywall over top of the studs/insulation covered with paint. The floor is concrete with carpet on top. The ceiling is actual a grid of metal with a “catwalk” above for maintenance.

    History of CB South

I am Logan, and l am focusing on the history of CB South because this is how l am contributing to the blog.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks South's Previous School Year is Transitioned to In-Person Instruction – Titan Tribune Image preview

Background Information: What You Need to Know

Due to the rising population of students, and the existence of CB West and East, it was official that another school should be built. Thus, South was born (early 1970’s was when land was purchased for construction).

    Interviews

    Mrs. Thurber – First thoughts

She said it was very huge. She originally came from Tamanend. She misses the cafeteria lunches, such as salads. She had lots of school spirit.

    Ms. Clark- First thoughts

She first started at CB East but did not have a good experience. When she first came to South in January 2005, she already knew people from being on the cheer team.

She thought the school was really big, and very easy to get lost because she didn’t know what floor she was on.

    Jobs

She started as a special education teacher and volunteered with Titans Connect group. She thought it was really cool working alongside some of the teachers that she had when at South.

I interviewed Mrs. Reisinger who has been working here since 2005

    This what she said:

‘’There were different principals and teachers, everything has brand new and clean. It had different technology and less technology compared to today. There was also less security.’’

    Teachers

Ms. Tannous, Mr Wussler, Mrs. Stotler, Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Wiess, Ms. Gray, Mrs. Boyce, Mr. Woodring, Mr. Monk (counselor) Mrs. Mclaughlin (coach) Ms. LeClair

    Deep Dive

Construction began in the late 90’s and when it was finished in 2004, the opening suddenly got postponed until the next year. It cost $84 million to build and is the largest school in the Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District. The first graduating class did not start attending South until the spring semester. There have been no major renovations ever since. ln March 2005, to join with West and East, a rock was given to the campus for momentous occasions to be decorated.

    Wrap Up

Ever since 2005, The Titans at Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks South always have their strong spirit.

    Dogs at CB South

Hi, my name is Josh and I'm writing about the Dogs that go to CB South. I do like the surprise of the dogs that come to our school. Interacting with the students and with the dogs is something that makes school enjoyable to have during L and L. It is nice of the owners that are having their trained dogs go into our school.

    Background Information

The dogs that will go to our school started in 2005 by Dian Smith, the founder. She had brought her dog to her son's school to help them learn to read in 2005. They also go to other school districts and courthouses around here.

A picture containing textDescription automatically generated

    Deep Dive

There is a club that has the Roxy dogs in the front lobby called Roxy Therapy Dogs Club. They meet when they can and use Instagram for when they will go to our school or other schools in Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks schools.

Mrs. Shaw, a counselor at South and fan of the Roxy dogs, says that the dogs “ have visited 1 time a month and there are 2 dogs that came into South. These two are small dogs. Louie is one of the dogs that comes around and they come with their owner, Marshal.”

Another dog visits around 9 times and his dog breads I remembered are Wheaton Terrier, Leon Berger, King Charles Spaniel.

During lunch and learn there was an event where students can come and eat with the Roxy doges 1 a month. It started in February 2023 and there are a few different ways the dogs can be seen from our school.

Mr. Young- “Theo was a dog I remember and his bread was a Leon burger, there are around 71 students in the club and Lauren, Talia and Lily are running the club right now. Mr. Gable was the teacher that ran it before me”.

  • CB South¡¯s Unified Track Team 2023

Posted by JENNIFER TANNOUS on 4/19/2023 9:00:00 AM

My name is Luke Schellinger, and I am a senior here at CB South. If you do not already know, we have a Unified Track Team here at South. I have been part of it since my sophomore year. It lets us link together with our crossover buddies.

Background Information: What You Need to Know

Let me tell you a little bit about Unified Track. It is a running sport that lets me exercise and gives me lots of friends who encourage me to warm-up by leading the group with stretches. Then they run with me, giving me support to continue keep going when I get tired, which makes me very happy.

Mr. Wussler is one of my coaches. He helps everyone practice well. He said, “The biggest thing I do to help out is work with the people who run the 100 meter dash and long jump at practice. The other way I help out is trying to motivate everyone to do their best when they are practicing and when they are competing in the meets.”  We work on many different activities. My favorite event is the 100. The 100 is a short sprint race where I can really show off my speed. Mr. Wussler gives me lots of encouragement to do my best!

    Wrap Up

We had our first Meet recently, and we did well. I was excited to run in a competition for the first time in a year. My team performed well. It was very cold outside, but we did our best to run and stay warm. I look forward to the rest of our Meets, especially our home meet at CB South in May. I hope you can come to view this event that I enjoy so much!

  • Creating a Game Plan

Posted by JENNIFER TANNOUS on 3/22/2023 12:00:00 PM

Today we got Serious, capital S! We began by articulating our updates and setting some goals for ourselves.

    plan

After learning more about blog features, we put our knowledge to the test in a find and seek game. Looking for the structures and language of blogging allowed us to have conversation about this writing task, our audience, and the informality we should use when crafting our writing.

    2

As we sat down to write, we had a clear goal, structure for organizing, and some model blogs to help guide our continued work. Tomorrow we will work with tutors during lunch and learn and get feedback on what we have so far.

  • Researching and Getting Help

Posted by JENNIFER TANNOUS on 3/8/2023 12:00:00 PM

This week we dove into stacks of old materials, yearbooks, newspaper clippings, and we met with Writing Center tutors to get some help with brainstorming.

Using the notes we got from Cheyenne, Ben and Hailey, we forged ahead with reading, note-taking, and organizing our thoughts.

    help

Our mini lesson on what makes a good blog and our template also helped us with titles for our blogs. William is focusing on ‘foundations,’ Logan is focusing on ‘history,’ and Luke is focusing on ‘sports highlights.’

  • Beginning!

Posted by JENNIFER TANNOUS on 3/1/2023 1:00:00 PM

    Welcome to our beginning!

We began researching and brainstorming today with help from Mrs. Weiss in the library. William was inspired to begin writing about the South's architecture; Luke was interested in interviewing teachers, and Logan is motivated by his family ties to South and he will be interviewing an older brother, a CB South grad.

    Research phase

We also began listing and brainstorming some topics for this blog, and we certainly have our work cut out for us.

    list

During lunch and learn we have made a plan to continue reading and researching before we add our voices to this blog and share with you what we discover. Stay tuned for more on this cool new project.
