• Early Intervention Transition to School-age Services Process

    Dear Early Intervention Transition families,

Welcome to Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District! We look forward to collaborating with you as you take the next step in your child’s educational journey and transition from Early Intervention into Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District. We recognize this is a big change for you and your child. We are committed to making this transition clear, easy, and focused on your child.

Your child is transitioning into school-age programming with an Individual Education Plan from Early Intervention (EI). Our goal is to support our families and set your child up for success in Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District holds a child find responsibility to determine if your child is eligible to receive school- age special education services as they transition from Early Intervention eligible services into Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District.

The district partners with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit to ensure a seamless and child-centered transition process for our families. The Bucks County Intermediate Unit will collaborate with you to schedule your child’s Early Intervention Transition meeting. The first purpose of our EI transition meeting is to learn about your child through the review of your child’s current Individual Education Plan. The second purpose of our EI transition meeting is to inform you of the school-age Reevaluation (RR) process to determine if your child meets one of the 13 school-age disability categories and requires specially designed instruction through the development of a school-age Individual Education Plan.

    1. School-Aged Reevaluation Process: The Reevaluation is led by a school psychologist and/or a speech and language pathologist. The evaluating school psychologist and/or speech and language pathologist review your child’s Early Intervention educational records and issues a Permission to Reevaluate (PTRe) within 10 calendar days after our Early Intervention Transition Meeting. The school psychologist and/or speech and language pathologist assigned to complete your child’s RR will reach out to you as a point of introduction and will review the appropriate evaluative measures as part of the RR process.

Reevaluations are Comprehensive, Individualized, and include the following:

      • Observation in current educational setting (preschool and/or specialized program)
        • Observation is scheduled with Preschool/Specialized program personnel
        • Observation may be conducted during the evaluation time with your child
      • Parent Input
        • Psychologist or Speech and Language Pathologist obtains parent input through questionnaires, rating scales, and dialogue
      • Early Intervention Staff Input
        • Psychologist or Speech and Language Pathologist obtains teacher input through rating scales, work product, and dialogue
      • Related Services
        • Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Hearing, and/or Vision may be a part of the Reevaluation process

    2. Reevaluation Testing Location:

    • Reevaluation of your child is completed at your child’s school of attendance and/or a Â鶹´«Ã½ school of the evaluating psychologist and/or speech and language pathologist

    3. Reevaluation Timeline:

    • Reevaluation is completed 60 calendar days from receipt of parental approved PTRe date

    4. Coordination of MDT and Location

    • Evaluating Psychologist schedules review of Reevaluation meeting with parents and school team
    • Reevaluation meeting is held at your child’s school of attendance

    5. School-Aged Eligibility Determination:

    • Students need to meet 2 criteria to meet special education eligibility:
      • Identified with 1 of 13 school-age disabilities
        AND
      • Requires specially designed instruction (IEP services)

    6. Individual Education Plan Timeline:

    •  If your child is eligible for school-age special education services and Individual Education Plan is developed and proposed for your approval
      • IEP completed 30 calendar days after the completion of the Reevaluation
      • IEP meeting scheduled with parents and school team
      • IEP meeting is held at your child’s school of attendance or the school that hosts the proposed program placement

On behalf of Â鶹´«Ã½ Bucks School District, we thank you for your trust and collaboration as we begin our new relationship to support you and your child.
